This may be the most non-touristy place in Mala Strana. Located on popular U Lužického semináře right off Charles Bridge, Kavárna Čas is like a throwback to the 80s or a Czech village cafe. Walking in, the two women behind the cake counter greet you with blank stares. There are two divided rooms; the one to the left is non-smoking. Sitting in the large room with really old furniture and cushions with no cush doesn’t sound pleasant. However, it’s quiet and for 35 CZK (they also have a double for 70 CZK) you get a decent, good sized cappuccino. Piazza D’Oro is their coffee brand. They also have cakes in the front counter and light Czech snacks.
It’s too bad, but the smoking room is actually the cooler one; it’s decorated with a whole bunch of great clocks (playing on the čas (which means time in Czech) theme.) Čas also serves beer and wine so is a great place to escape the masses and enjoy a little čas to yourself. In the summer, you can hide away even more in their quiet back courtyard. Thanks to its great location, great prices and non-smoking room, Čas gets 3 kicks.
