For a bit of a French afternoon off of Karlovo náměstí, you can’t go wrong with Café Amandine. The interior feels like Paris circa 1920s, there’s a generous cake counter, and spying on the table next to mine, a French lunch menu.
This was a nice cappuccino (60 CZK), good-sized and with a cute little coconut cookie to accompany it. My CiC on this trip ordered a menu special which came with an espresso and a selection of 4 different bite-sized sweets. This late afternoon visit saw the café’s front room practically at capacity the whole time, with many patrons enjoying a glass of wine.
Service was fine and the atmosphere buzzy thanks to the full room. The glass stained ceiling, light fixtures and dark wood give it a décor very different to the industrial chic, hipster look that’s so easy to find these days. A bit on the pricey side, but a great central place to meet friends.
